Clemson Women ACC Tennis ChampsThe word is upset. First there was sixth-seed Florida State knocking off third-seed Miami.

Then there’s stunning upset. Fourth-seed Clemson shutdown top-seed Georgia Tech to move into the women’s ACC tennis championship against Duke.

The nail-biting didn’t stop in the semifinals for Tiger fans as it took close to three and a half hours for Carol Salge to finish off her opponent and clinch the ACC Women’s Tennis Championship for Clemson.

Carol SalgeAs a result of her efforts, Salge was named the MVP of the Women’s ACC Tennis Championship.

In women’s doubles action Salge and Ani Majicika helped the Tigers move into the top spot with an 8-5 win over the Blue Devil’s Melissa Mang and Amanda Granson.

 

 

 

 

MEN’S TENNIS

Number seven-seed Miami made a great run but found the proverbial wall in the performance by a solid Virginia men’s tennis team. The Cavaliers were intent on bringing home the fourth men’s ACC tennis championship title in five years.

The top-seeded Virginia Cavaliers have remain unbeaten in 2008 with 28 consecutive wins including their second-straight shutout victory in the title match.

Treat Huey

ACC teams will have a ten-day lull prior to the NCAA announcing the 64-team post-season selection. Individual selections will be announced on April 30.
