NCAA/WNIT - the ACC women
The ACC Women continue to put their signature on college basketball with postseason action in the WNIT and NCAA.
North Carolina State and Boston College, after lengthy layoffs due to first-round byes, nailed wins in second-round action Monday night in the WNIT.
The Wolfpack rallied from a 14-point-halftime deficit to defeat the Gamecocks of South Carolina 72-69 and move on to quarterfinal action.
The win gave NC State a homecourt advantage for their Thursday (7 p.m.) match-up with Florida.
Boston College didn’t have to work nearly as hard for their win as the Eagles overtook Vermont for a 76-64 win. Boston College moves on to face St. John’s for another game slated for Thursday at 7 p.m. on St. John’s home court.
Certainly not to take anything away from State or BC, but the biggest game of the night belonged to Florida State as they battled No. 3 seed and 13th-ranked Oklahoma State in NCAA action.
The struggle went all the way to 0.7 seconds in overtime. A foul on the ‘Noles put OSU on the line. The front end bricked however the back end went in and wrecked the hopes of players, coaches and fans. (Pictured FSU Freshman Mara Freshour - AP Photo)
The final score 73-72 Oklahoma State.
An impressive run by the No. 11 seeded Seminoles as they began the tournament by knocking off higher seeded and nationally ranked Ohio State.
